U11 Hockey v Westholme (Report by Mrs Lee)

On an extremely cold afternoon in Preston, the team turned out in their new shirts to play the first fixture of the new year. The newly formed U11B team played the first match. After the first few minutes the girls were passing the ball out well and the goals started to come. Emily Mc and Ameilia worked tirelessly in mid field feeding the ball to Anna and Louisa to score the goals. Holly worked well in defense distributing good strong passes to the forwards. Sheer determination saw Manju score her first goal for the school, goals were scored by Anna (2), Louisa, Shahna, and Manju. Final score 5.0, a well-deserved result.

As the temperature continued to drop, the U11A team took to the pitch. From the start, Rossall totally dominated the game through good passing and positioning on the pitch. The defensive players, Jasmine, Hannah and Ellie have now developed a good understanding and work the ball well through to mid field. Good linking play between Louisa/ Shahna, Kathryn and Grace sets up opportunities for the goals to be scored. Thankfully Aimee had very little to do in goal today. The final score was 8.0. Goals Kathryn 3, Grace 3, Jasmine, Shahna. The practicing may be beginning to play off, well done.

U13’s Boys Hockey vs. Malsis (Report by Mr Kelly)

After a disappointing loss to Giggleswick in the first game of the season, Rossall faced Malsis on a typically cold day at Rossall. The game started slowly with Rossall dominating possession and territory; however Rossall couldn’t find a way past the Malsis goal keeper who was in top form all day. It took until the last minute of the first third until Harrison A received the ball on the edge of the “D” beat two defenders and neatly finished in the bottom corner.

A number of changes were made to the Rossall team for the second third, but this didn’t stop them playing free flowing hockey. Oliver was a rock in the centre of the Rossall defence quashing each Malsis attack and distributing the ball very well. The second goal came when Remy followed up a James W shot to score a typical poachers goal and shortly after this Rossall added a 3rd just at the end of the second third.

More changes for Rossall and still the hockey being played remained at a very high standard. Malsis pulled a goal back from a well struck short corner, however Rossall dominated the final third of the match and the game was finished off with a well struck short corner from Harrison A.

The game finished 4-1 and it was great to see 13 different boys representing Rossall in a very positive manner.

Man of the match – Oliver for a superb defensive display throughout the game.

U9 Football v Arnold (Report by Mr Condon)

The Rossall Rams have had a fantastic football season and were determined to continue their winning ways against Arnold last Friday. The boys are playing some wonderful football and it was pleasing to see all Year 4 boys representing the school and also a touchline full of Rossall parents cheering on the team.

The Rams started brightly, passing the ball around confidently and pressurising the Arnold defence with attacking play. Michael created some wonderful opportunities from four consecutive corners and Harry, Kieran and Nico were unlucky to be kept out by some excellent goalkeeping. Joe, Edward, Sam and Takuya made some marvellous tackles to halt any Arnold attacks and Rossall were enjoying the majority of possession.

However, quick counter-attacking from the opposition led to a fine Arnold shot on goal but Laurie, making his debut for the school team, parried the ball away superbly from the top corner to deny them a golden opportunity to take the lead.

With still no score at half time the Rams knew they had to create early opportunities and slick inter-play from Harry, Nico and a beautifully timed pass from Michael put Scott through in the penalty area. A late challenge resulted in a Rossall penalty and Scott stepped up confidently to score a fantastic goal in the bottom corner.

This really inspired the team and further attacks resulted in another corner for Rossall. Michael crossed the ball perfectly to the far post for Scott to score his second with a beautifully timed header. On came Alex and Yuki, also representing Rossall for the first time.

Joe, who is always so disciplined in defence, pushed forward and netted a wonderfully taken opportunity to score his first goal for the school and lead 3-0. Arnold never gave up and it was only fine defensive play from Edward that denied them scoring chances towards the end of the game. This was a superb performance from the boys who conducted themselves admirably on and off the pitch and were in fine voice on the journey back to Rossall.
