Year 5 are learning about explorers

YEAR 5

are showing wonderful interest in our UOI on Exploration and the research they have carried out on past explorers and questions they have posed about space exploration has been fantastic. They have been using their ICT skills to the full, preparing PowerPoint presentations on chosen explorers (although one person was disappointed they couldn’t find out about ‘Dora the Explorer’!) and the animation and effects they have used and shared with each other has been fantastic. They have also enjoyed developing their acting skills in our work on plays and are working in small groups to perform their scripts to the class. All performances are being filmed for educational purposes but also in case we get a chance to make £200 on ‘You’ve been Framed’!

Year 5 interview residents of local town Cleveleys

Year 5 interview Cleveleys residents

Our Inquiry work really took off and the class couldn’t wait to venture into Cleveleys to find out what the public thought about our local town (or maybe it was spending their money on ice creams that made them so excited!). It was a perfect morning for our field trip and although the class were a little daunted asking their questionnaires, it wasn’t long before all the class were tackling passers-by and finding out lots of interesting information.

.

The class really were a credit to the school and Mr Condon received lots of complimentary comments about how smart and polite the class were, and was even given a book about Cleveleys from a shopkeeper. Now time to write to the council about our findings.

Year 5 having fun at Winmarleigh - the R Factor!

Last Half Term
Visit to Winmarleigh

Winmarleigh was the talk of the class and Year 5 loved looking through all the photos of their fantastic few days away before half term. It really was a super trip and the children were wonderful role models for the school.

.

It was very entertaining reading out their recounts this week; the scariest moments had to be the Giant Swing and the Zip Wire and the funniest was the talent show, where the class kept each other amused all evening with singing, dancing and acting.

.

It was wonderful to see them all get along so well and encourage each other throughout our stay. One instructor commented how impressed he was with their ability to work as a team and listen to one another, so I'm hoping that will

continue in class!
