Year 10                      Bronze

Year 11                      Silver

Years 12 & 13             Gold

Rossall School is licensed as a DofE Operating Authority, which means that we run the award independently and are accountable to DofE North West.

Young people achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four or five sections; Skills, Volunteering, Physical, Expedition and Residential).  They’ll find themselves helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).

Gaining the Duke of Edinburgh Award at any level is a wonderful achievement for a young person.  Participants have the opportunity to gain confidence in their abilities, learn new skills and meet new people.  The award is designed to broaden a young person's experiences, offer new challenges in their lives and open the door to learning new skills.  Prospective universities and employers regard award holders highly.

All the programmes are driven by the following ten guiding principles, which are at the heart of everything that is done.

  • Non-competitive
  • Achievable by all
  • Voluntary
  • Personal development
  • Personalised
  • Balanced
  • Progressive
  • Achievement focused
  • Demand commitment
  • Enjoyable

A strong team of experienced staff run the expeditions along with hired in Mountain Leaders. We assess the students internally at Bronze level and at Silver and Gold level we employ external assessors.

All the expeditions that are run through Rossall are by foot. However, it is possible to do it by bicycle, boat, canoe/ kayak or horse. This can be organised this for your child as there are many companies that offer independent Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. The opportunities that are out there are numerous.

eDofE

To achieve an Award, you need to prove what activities you've been doing, show how you've processed and you've met the goals you set for each section.

eDofE is an online system that means you can record your DofE programme and activities, and prove what you've done in loads of different ways.

The benefits of using eDofE:

  • You can easily select what you want to do for each section and get your Leader to approve it
  • You can record evidence about what you've done in a variety of formats - from jpeg photos or scans (of certificates, thank you letters etc), to blogs and voice recordings
  • Your Assessors can submit evidence via our website or via voice message as well
  • Your Leaders can view your DofE evidence and approve it easily
  • It's accessible 24/7, whenever you want to check on your progress or add some evidence
  • You get the latest DofE news and offers
  • You can message and communicate with your Leaders and other participants in your group
  • You can't lose it
  • At the end you can create a personal Achievement Pack to keep your memories forever!
