Rose House was established in 1884. Situated on the near right hand side of the Square adjoining the archway, Rose House only moved into its present newly refurbished accommodation in September 2006. The brand new house houses 38 boarders and 14 day pupils. It occupies the top two floors of a building that had previously been home to two girls' Day Houses. The ground floor of the building houses another girls' house, Dolphin House.

There are 36 single bedrooms and 10 double bedrooms. Every bedroom has a bed, matching wardrobe, drawers and desk, computerized safe and a network socket for a computer. There are no central changing rooms and baths, showers and toilets and kitchenette are available on each floor.

The House has two Common Rooms with comfortable seating, TV, DVD and video etc. and a kitchen on each floor with microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge.

Rose News

We are expecting our final arrival on Friday and the House will be complete.

Several of the girls are thoroughly enjoying the Horse riding and Linda Nguyneova was delighted to receive her riding gear sent from home so she is now fully equipped.

Much fun was had at Alton Towers last Sunday and several of the girls now have big teddy bears and inflatable bananas in their bedrooms which they won on the games there.

But by far the hottest news is our on-going rehearsals for the House singing competition. They have chosen the song “Dreamgirls” from the film of the same name and I am amazed by their enthusiasm and dedication. Dorina Bell has re-recorded the song in a lower key to make it easier for the girls and Sophie Watt has choreographed a dance routine which she is teaching to all the girls in small groups which are colour coded. It is all highly efficient and as I have said to the girls it really doesn’t matter if we win or not they have had such fun doing it and they are really getting to know each other so well that it has already been a winner as far as I am concerned.

The last piece of news is that we have a new furry addition to the House. One of our new Tutors Ms Marza has been reunited with her two dogs who have just arrived from Spain. Tiny accompanied her on duty last week wearing a very snazzy knitted coat and was a great success with all the girls.
