Trip to Chester
Sunday 13th Sept 09
On Sunday 13th September all the students from Lugard House visited the historic Roman city of Chester. Leaving Rossall School at 10am we arrived in Chester ready for lunch.
.
The sun was shining and the streets were busy with people enjoying a relaxing Sunday, sitting in cafes, shopping and enjoying the sun. We walked around the city centre and saw the cathedral, the town hall and the famous wall surrounding the city centre.
.
The students had the afternoon to themselves to enjoy the cultural sights of the city, go to the cafes and do some shopping. Some of our students found it strange that the shops were open on a Sunday, a tradition not typical in their home countries.
.
We enjoyed a walk by the river where there was a traditional English brass band playing in the bandstand. Many people were relaxing by the river, going on boat trips and strolling along the river bank.
.
We returned to Rossall School in the later afternoon, ready for dinner.
.
A great day out was enjoyed by all.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year has been an important event at Rossall ISC this year and the students have celebrated in style. On Wednesday 23rd January a group of students went to see the famous Chinese State Circus, at the Preston Guild Hall. The performances were breathtaking and the ISC students had a fantastic time. Some even bought some equipment to practice plate spinning and juggling!
.
There was also a Chinese New Year party for all to enjoy. Food was delivered by a local Chinese restaurant and a delicious traditional feast was enjoyed. The ISC students did their own disco, playing traditional Chinese music along with modern dance music – a real mix! The highlight of the evening was a Chinese dragon dance around the school square. All the students paraded the dragon in true traditional style. The students received lucky money red envelopes and fortune cookies to give them good luck for the forthcoming year – the year of the Ox.

ISC Field Trip: 10th October 2008
On Friday 10th October, ISC students went on a trip to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. After a punctual departure, we arrived at the museum ahead of schedule, checked in, and visited the various exhibits in small groups, each accompanied by a teacher. The museum has been extensively developed over the last several years, and the site now offers a range of different experiences including a fascinating display of cars and aircraft, a power hall with working models of engines, and a station building complete with original sewer tunnels. Fortunately these have been cleaned up and today’s visitor can walk through them unhampered by the legendary rats of old.
One of my favourite exhibits was the original programmable computer from 1948, known as “The Baby.” It’s the size of a small house (well, almost) and it’s incredible to think how far we have come since then: today’s mobile phones are almost certainly capable of far more sophisticated tasks. Highlight of many people’s visit was the hands-on room where everyone gets the chance to play alongside the 7 year-olds. During the visit, our students completed a set of worksheets with merit points being awarded for the best work on our return to school.
After lunch, we made a brief stop at the Lowry Centre to allow students the opportunity to see the work of a famous local artist. Some of the Juniors enjoyed the chance to try some of the art activities on offer and the opportunity to copy the Lowry style, although some of them definitely seemed more interested in relaxing on the giant bean bags.
We concluded our trip with a brief visit to the neighbouring shopping centre.

Football Match Trip 16th March 2008
English Premier League
Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur
Turkish, Angolan, Chinese, Armenian, German and 3 teachers, one having never been to a football match before, travelled to the match with high expectations of a good game, as Tottenham had just played in the UEFA Cup in midweek, and had recently won the Carling Cup against Chelsea, the first big trophy of the season.
.
Tottenham’s Spanish manager Juande Ramos and Manchester City’s Swedish manager Sven Goran Ericsson, the former England manager and the Manchester City Director, Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Thailand Prime Minister, who was watching the game amid a posse of bodyguards wearing dark suits and 007 earpieces, settled down to watch a most exciting game which Manchester won 2-1 after coming back from a goal behind.
.
There were many International players playing including some from Brazil, Spain, Italy, Republic of Ireland, England, France, China, Cameroon, Bulgaria, Germany, Ivory Coast and Finland. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the match.
