Rossall CCF receives the Queen's Colours

Royal Award for Rossall CCF

On Tuesday 29th June Rossall CCF was delighted to accept a new banner to mark the anniversary of the 150th year of Rossall Combined Cadet Force from the Lord Lieutenant Shuttleworth. As Rossall CCF is the oldest in the country this was a very special occasion and spectators were moved at the chapel service that involved the blessing of the banner.

.

We are one of only four schools in the country to be awarded a new banner. After the Chapel service the pupils lined the square to greet the parade lead by the outstanding CCF band, who were playing the tune to the Carmen, Floreat Rossallia.

Gwersyll Hyffordiant Capel Curig – Capel Curig Training Camp

On the morning of Monday 5th April 2010, all 10 of us gathered together at the drop off point waiting for Mr McCleary and Mr Fairhurst to pull up with the minibus and trailer, once they stopped beside us, everyone excitedly headed over, dragging their bags with them over to the trailer throwing them into a pile. We all quickly wished our parents farewell and jumped into the bus.

Rossall Shooting Team

Visit to Altcar Camp April 2008

On Thursday 17th April the team was rounded up and was moved down to Altcar by minibus. During the day we zeroed and marked our rifles for the practice shoot which was to commence on the Saturday.

Saturday 19th April was a practice shoot beginning at 300yards firing 2 spotting rounds and 10 shots. Each firer needs to fire 12 shots within 15 mins, a feat within itself. At this stage the team was really confident as they were all scoring 4s or 5s.
The team then moved to the 500yard point and did exactly the same shoot.

Sunday 20th April was competition day with the team starting on the range at 11.30am. The weather was dull with some light showers, but this did not deter the team in any way.

Overall the team shot better at 500yards then they did at 300yards, was it nerves or was it not being confident enough that they could have a chance of winning something. We will probably never know, but what they did say is they will win it next year. Good luck to the team

CCF Easter Camp 2008

CCF Adventure Camp
31st March - 4th April 2008

Easter camp has been a great success this year with all members enjoying the challenging and arduous tasks these camps offer to young students. Adventure training involves controlled exposure to risk and also develops leadership, teamwork, physical fitness and moral and physical courage.

The students involved this year were Alex Dansie, James Harkness, Harrison Rimmer, Errol Taylor, Oliver Cross and Joshua Lee. We had a surprise visit by Mrs Cross and son James when we went hill walking heading towards Helvellyn (2nd highest peak in the lake district) an experience they have done quite a number of times now. The staff as usual were Mr Riding, Ms Heap and Mr McCleary.

More reports from the students together with pictures just to let you know how much of a good time we had, can be viewed by clicking here.

Well done to all competitors. Taking this was the first time many of you have fired a rifle before and I was very impressed with the standard of shooting. Could there be someone shooting in the 2012 Olympics?
