Sport

Sport is one of the cornerstones of Rossall’s educational provision and we are equally as proud of our strong tradition in games such as Fives and RossHockey as we are of our prowess in Hockey and Basketball. Our excellent on-site facilities include 150 acres of playing fields, a floodlit all weather pitch, a gymnasium, five squash courts, a climbing wall, eight Fives courts, a 25 metre heated indoor swimming pool, a cricket pavilion, a shooting range, and an archery range.

Through classes in physical education, inter-house sporting competitions and School team games, all our boys and girls have the opportunity to participate and receive coaching in a wide variety of sports including:

Teams

Standards at school team leveel are high. The School Football team is coached by a visiting professional coach. Our XI girls School hockey team plays in Division One of the Womens' Central Lancashire Hockey League and our under 16 girls hockey team won both the Lancashire and North West round of the National Schools' competition and competed at Bellvue Stadium in the North of England finals. Our under 16 basketball team reached the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup and the under 19 basketball team reached the final of the inaugural Heyford Cup. Our Shooting team is the current champions of the prestigious Loyals Cup and our boys' Squash team have reached the knock out round in the U-19 All England Squash League.

All our teams play on tough, competitive circuits against top school opposition from around the country and abroad. Recent sports tours have included:

Cricket:

South Africa and Switzerland 

 

Fives:

Switzerland  

Hockey: 

Barcelona, Holland, Cyprus and New Zealand  

Rugby: 

Cyprus and New Zealand  

Individually, the school has recently produced internationals in Rugby and Hockey: Matthew Betty (U-18 Ireland Rugby) and Fran Parker (U-16) North of England Hockey.
